FOCUS Battery Consulting provides technology and business support for the battery, fuel cells, power systems and energy technology sectors. This can be advice on specific technical issues, guidance on market requirements to broadly based support for major projects. FOCUS also provides services to assist companies in market development in order to identify customer requirements, routes to market and the principal users of batteries, fuel cells and related systems. FOCUS can provide expert support for due diligence enquiries for investors. In addition, FOCUS is experienced in expert witness work and has advised a number of clients following incidents with batteries and on intellectual property matters.

Geoffrey May is the practice leader at FOCUS. He has over 30 years of experience in the battery industry and is a recognised expert in all aspects of rechargeable batteries, including lead-acid, nickel-based, lithium-based, sodium-based and silver-based systems as well as fuel cells and other energy technologies. FOCUS has been in operation since 2003 and has a wide client base. He leads a number of programmes for the Consortium for Battery Innovation and regularly participates in and chairs industry conferences.

He was Chief Technology Officer for FIAMM in the period up to 2003 and prior to that was Group Director of Technology for Invensys/BTR Power Systems/Hawker Batteries (now EnerSys) for many years. His earlier career was with Chloride Group and with Hawker Siddeley Group. He obtained both his first and second degrees at the University of Cambridge, is a Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining and a Chartered Engineer
